A public interest association, volunteers listen by telephone or chat to anyone who is suffering, lonely, in difficulty, or experiencing suicidal thoughts. This listening is strictly anonymous and respectful of the caller regardless of their beliefs. Volunteers receive initial training and ongoing training, but this does not make them specialists who solve problems; they do much more—they listen. Listening is the difficult art of restoring a person's dignity and clarifying the problems they face in their life; it is a relationship that is above all human and respectful. Volunteers strive to provide listening support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with calls charged at local rates with no surcharges. The volunteer team is growing, but more listeners are needed to answer all incoming calls.
