Volunteer prison visiting is based on Victor Hugo's conviction that "the right no one can take from anyone is the right to become better." Your availability, kind listening, and empathy can help people deprived of freedom. Since human dignity fundamentally develops through exchange, brotherhood and solidarity, offering them a space to listen and speak is for many their first access to dignity.
