Hospital Patient Visiting (VMEH) is a Federation of French non-profit associations that is apolitical and non-denominational, with the purpose of providing hospitalized people with attentive listening, comfort, and support. With nearly 200 years of history, VMEH is characterized by successive developments that have allowed it to adapt to the times over the centuries while always prioritizing the well-being of hospitalized patients and nursing home residents, working in partnership with hospital professionals and healthcare and social services providers. The association comprises more than 5,000 volunteers distributed throughout France, carrying out 400,000 visits across a thousand facilities (hospitals, retirement homes, convalescent homes, etc.). The National Federation of VMEH brings together all 82 departmental associations to coordinate activities throughout the territory and represent VMEH at the national level.
