Founded by Coluche in 1985, Restos du Cœur is a non-profit association under the French law of 1901, recognized as being of public utility, under the official name "les Restaurants du Cœur – les Relais du Cœur" (Heart Restaurants – Heart Relays). Their purpose is "to help and provide voluntary assistance to destitute people, particularly in the food domain through access to free meals, and to contribute to their social and economic integration, as well as to any action against poverty in all its forms".
