We are a nonprofit association established under French law (Loi 1901), apolitical and non-denominational, created in April 1969 under the name THE OPEN DOOR. The association is composed of volunteers trained in Rogerian person-centered listening and convinced that compassionate listening enables each person to face loneliness and/or distress, and to find within the relationship the resources to overcome their difficulties. We offer anyone going through a period of loneliness, distress, or difficulty the opportunity to meet with someone to talk to, without judgment, with respect for anonymity and confidentiality. The person who arrives, sometimes in great distress, is welcomed, listened to, and feels valued as a whole individual whose voice is heard and taken into account. Our listeners are volunteers from diverse backgrounds who receive regular training and participate once a month in group supervision sessions led by a psychologist.
