The short answer is yes — volunteering is compatible with unemployment. But there are conditions to respect and a declaration requirement you must not overlook. Here is everything you need to know.
The principle: volunteering and ARE are compatible
French law allows job seekers to carry out volunteer work while continuing to receive their return-to-work allowance (ARE). Volunteering is not considered paid professional activity, and it does not suspend your right to benefits.

Allowances and expense reimbursements
