Appointed by the departmental education authority, the DDEN fulfills a public service mission in the schools of the department: It is an ex-officio member of the school board and conducts visits to public and private educational establishments. It ensures compliance with laws relating to schools, serves as a mediator between teachers, parents and elected officials. It upholds the principle of secularism.
