The departmental delegate for National Education is a volunteer appointed officially by the Academic Director of National Education services (DASEN) for Haute-Garonne. Their primary concern is the wellbeing of children in the 2, 3 or 4 schools (nursery and/or primary schools) under their jurisdiction and they ensure good conditions of safety (physical and psychological) for students in school, extracurricular, transport and catering matters (they leave pedagogy to the professionals that teachers are). They play a mediation role between the partners of the educational community (parents, teachers and local council) and serve as an interlocutor with the National Education administration in the department. They are ex-officio members of school councils (one per term). They are a reference point for everything relating to secularism and the values of republican schools. Any person over 25 years old, from any professional background is eligible to become a DDEN.
