The Monnaie09 association aims to establish, promote, administer and manage a local, complementary, ethical and solidarity-based currency in Ariège called "Pyrène". The Pyrène currency has been in circulation since July 4, 2014, on the opening day of the Foix "Resistances" Festival. It is issued in banknotes of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 Pyrènes, at an exchange rate of 1 π to 1 €. Aware of current urgent challenges, Monnaie09 works towards: a real, non-speculative economy serving the common good, a local economy that promotes the relocation of employment, services and production, an economy respectful of nature and humanity. From production to consumption, Pyrène users uphold human, social and environmental ethics, creating a network of trust between all members (individuals, professionals, associations, local authorities, etc.) and strengthening social bonds, cooperation and solidarity, providing Ariège ecosystems with a resilience tool capable of adapting to current and future societal changes.
