La Gemme is a non-profit association whose purpose is to administer and develop the complementary local and civic currency "la gemme" in Gironde and certain neighbouring territories. The development of this local currency pursues several structural objectives: 1) to defend a sustainable economy serving humanity, with respect for the environment and living things; 2) to support responsible consumption, local production, neighbourhood businesses and short supply chains; 3) to strengthen social bonds, solidarity and trust between local actors; 4) to promote citizen reclamation of means of exchange and contribute to popular education in the fields of economics and finance. La Gemme is a member of the SOL Movement, the national network of complementary local currencies.
