L’Araire - Groupe de recherche sur l’histoire, l’archéologie et le folklore du pays Lyonnais

The ard is a ploughing instrument whose origins date back to ancient Egypt. The association "L'ARAIRE" adopted this name to express its commitment to ploughing its own furrow in order to extract the buried riches of the past. It has set itself the goal of conducting research on the History, Archaeology and Heritage of the Lyonnais region. Situated on the last foothills, the Lyonnais has a long history behind it. It was in this land that the Romans built the extraordinary network of aqueducts, over 200 km long, designed to supply Lugdunum, the capital of Gaul, the hill of ravens, which would become Lyon. The recent history of the Lyonnais is marked by the transition from craftsmanship to industry and by the modernization of its agriculture.
