As the only national family association recognized as a public utility in this field, France Alzheimer and related illnesses relies on a network of 96 departmental associations. Thanks to the commitment of over 2,200 volunteers, the Association carries out various missions. The association's role is to help patients and their families cope with the disease, and it also aims to inform, advise and support families as well as raise awareness and work with official bodies to help families and promote research. France Alzheimer runs memory cafés, respite centres, support groups and workshops with art mediation and cognitive stimulation activities. The Association organises holiday stays which, for over 30 years, have allowed people with the illness and their family caregivers to spend a few days of respite, surrounded by France Alzheimer volunteers.
