Emmaüs Saint Omer / Calais

The Emmaus communities of Saint-Omer (located in Saint Martin lez Tatinghem) and Calais (located in Les Attaques). The Emmaus Movement today comprises 120 communities. They are places of welcome, living, activity and solidarity, which operate without any subsidies and solely through the recovery of donated items. This financial independence allows them to be innovative and free in their actions. People welcomed into the community stay for as long as they wish, with the only obligation being to respect the common house rules. Faithful to unconditional welcome, the communities receive people from all backgrounds. The community allows people to "get back on their feet," to rediscover the landmarks of an organized social life. It provides the pride of feeling useful again, and gives meaning to life by serving the most deprived through numerous solidarity initiatives. The Saint Martin lez Tatinghem community welcomes 49 people called Emmaus companions, while the Les Attaques community welcomes 22. Emmaus companions are provided with food, lodging and laundry in exchange for which these people must carry out an integration activity for the community. We practice unconditional welcome…
