At Lille Sudbury School, children and adolescents aged 3 to 18 can participate in the management of the school and decide how they spend their days. By doing what interests them, they acquire foundational knowledge and develop their talents. They also acquire skills that will be useful to them throughout their lives: knowing themselves (their interests and how they function), setting their own objectives and finding the means to achieve them; living in society by asserting their rights and respecting those of others. They progress at their own pace, in an environment of trust and respect. Responsible for their choices and involved in the life of the school, they develop the skills and confidence necessary to build their future. Lille Sudbury School, opened in 2018, is inspired by the models of Sudbury Valley School, created in 1968 in the United States, and Summerhill School, founded in 1921 in England. These democratic schools, which have existed for over a century, have enabled their former students to succeed in varied paths, whether by pursuing further studies or entering diverse professions. Their models have inspired the opening of many similar schools around the world.
