The French Red Cross is legally an association, faithful to the founding principle of the 1901 law, which encourages people to commit freely to take action. It is open to all, without barriers or discrimination. Recognized as being in the public interest in 1945, it bases the commitment of its volunteers on the trust and autonomy it grants them through significant delegations of responsibility. The French Red Cross is also engaged in a social economy of non-profit services. This less well-known dimension is nonetheless rooted in a long-standing commitment in the fields of health, social assistance, and training. As such, the French Red Cross manages nearly 600 facilities and employs approximately 16,000 employees who put their professionalism at the service of the association's humanitarian actions.
