Atelier Malicot

Because it is the only functional "daylight studio" from the late 19th century still operating in France, the Atelier Malicot constitutes a singular heritage site. Opened to the public nearly 10 years ago following 3 years of restoration, it is today recognized across Europe as one of the rare places dedicated to preserving the memory and techniques of early photography, alongside the Atelier Relvas in Portugal, the Atelier Seidel in the Czech Republic, the Atelier Pelikan in Slovenia, and the Atelier Altana in Poland. It was to ensure the long-term safeguarding of this heritage that we launched a study in 2019. This study demonstrated the full value of professionalizing our organization in order to guarantee its sustainability. It was then essential that local authorities express their interest in the project developed by the consulting firm Maîtres du Rêve, so that the Atelier Malicot could continue its development as our European partners have done.
