ASP16 subscribes to the principles of palliative care, which are principles of humanity, human solidarity, autonomy, and respect for life. Its missions are conducted within a framework of secularism and volunteer neutrality. It recruits, selects, supervises, and supports volunteer companions. It informs healthcare teams, the public, and thus contributes to changing attitudes toward end of life and death through its awareness-raising role. It improves support for patients and their families as part of comprehensive care through its accompaniment role. The Objectives (reference DH05 – 28 March 2008): To accompany people who are suffering regardless of where they are, with respect for each person's individuality. To raise awareness throughout society. To maintain ongoing questioning and social vigilance regarding risks of exclusion generated by social change and scientific progress. To adapt to the evolution of new needs that emerge within society.
