Founded in 1938 at the initiative of nuns at the Hôtel-Dieu, the Association of Hospital Libraries of Lyon and its Region continues to offer hospitalized patients, children and adults, and residents of care homes and retirement homes, reading, music and storytelling. Through book and CD lending and storytelling sessions, ABH is a bearer of sharing, comfort and escape. The association's approximately 200 volunteers, distributed across more than 50 facilities, benefit from training in hospitals and the medical environment, hygiene, patient communication, library science and storytelling. They also enjoy ongoing support through discussion groups and work around the selection of acquisitions. Finally, ABH also includes cultural evenings, particularly storytelling, the sale of second-hand books in hospitals, and participation in literary events.
