I build social connections by meeting weekly with a lonely person at Astrée Metz

Mission description

18% of the population regularly suffers loneliness, affecting all ages. Caused by sudden life events like job loss, separation, illness, moving, or bereavement. This relational isolation can be broken through regular, compassionate exchanges without judgment or advice with a trusted person. It's long-term accompaniment: volunteers meet the person for 1.5 hours weekly to check in and listen. Active, non-judgmental listening allows the person to lead conversation where they wish. The goal is rebuilding social connection: feeling recognized and valued.
